The GOP: It’s Not Your Grandfather’s Party
So I watched Actor Jon Voight host the GOP fundraiser and the first thought that came to mind was: Ohh, NOW I get why his daughter, Angelina Jolie, refuse to talk to him – he’s out to lunch!
Of course just because Jon Voight is “out to lunch” doesn’t mean it’s fine for her not to keep in contact with him – but I understand.
You just have to wonder about him and the Republican Party. The GOP has swung so far to the right – so totally and radically far to the right – they’ve blasted out of reality straight into space where they’re just drifting in limbo!
Voight’s calling President Obama a “False Prophet” was simply bizarre. Then to hear his twisted views on how President Bush kept us safe, yet everything Obama has done thus far has turned out disastrous, was outrageous. He continued his rhetoric that Obama is weakening the country and that the Republicans should free the nation from the Obama oppression. Further proof we are not on the same planet.
Not to be outdone, Newt Gingrich took to the dais and emphasized how the party should go back to fundamental principals of lower taxes, less government intrusion, and the defense of individualism. Also emphasizing to the group that he, “Is NOT a citizen of the world, “and the idea was, “intellectual nonsense and stunningly dangerous.” There you go, some kind of alien religion talk again.
Republicans call themselves conservatives. But they seem more like an angry fringe radical group with bibles in hands than a legitimate political party. If you didn’t know it was the GOP they could have passed as members of some kind of underground cult.
The strange thing is, if those same comments were said about former President Bush during his term, Voight, Gingrich and company would have certainly been wire-tapped, jailed, and maybe even waterboarded. How’s that for irony?
Don’t be surprised if people begin to call the Grand Old Party, the Grand Old Propaganda. The party should know by now it’s hard to fool people who live in the real world.

Grand Old Propaganda, indeed! Great article.
Hey, you’re right — what has gotten into the GOP? They’re beginning to sound delusional! Barack Obama is a “false prophet?” Oh, I see — after campagning for two years, longer than anyone else, and being investigated (and vetted) by the public, the media, various political parties, and being elected in a landslide victory — he’s false. Hmmm …. And “weakening the country?” GOP should “free the nation from Obama’s oppression?” Reiko Eoh, you’re right about such rhetoric being from people who’s heads are in outer space. Being “a citizen of the world” is “intellectual nonsense and stunningly dangerous?” Newt and the GOP know about “intellectual” how? They’re making the “Grand Old Party” seem like an oxymoron, run by and supported by morons. Afterall, when George Bush was running the country into the ground, they were still supporting him 100%. The Demoncrats were the only ones criticizing Bush — and they were called “unpatriotic” and other false labels by the GOP. Now look at the shape the country is in. Thank you Newt and GOP — all of us who are laid off, facing layoff or furloughs; losing our homes, or lost our homes — we owe it all to you. Yes, keep calling the Democrats and Pres. Obama names. You’re digging yourselves deeper. And guess what? The economy is starting to improve. Who’s a “false prophet?” I can’t hear you ….
Like many self made men from a blue collar family I bought the “religion” of Reganism and liked a lot of what the Republican Party stood for. True conservatives like Pat Buchanan were heros of mine.
I left the Republican Party when Jesus became a “supply side Republican” and the religious right coopted the party. Recent events have proven that all of us may be sinners. It is ironic indeed that while Bill Clinton certainly had fidelity problems he is still married to his first wife. Newt and Rush along with Governor Sanford are not poster boys for “family values”. These folks are distractions.
If the Republican Party is to ever become more than a southern, aging white political party dominated by religious “leaders”, a purge is going to have to take place.
While I voted for Obama I have to honestly say that my true vote was against George W. Bush, the worst President in U.S. history. He was everything true conservatives spurn.
A prescription for the GOP, return to your values! Embrace economic nationalism, true fiscal conservatism (pay as you go), restoration of a prosperous middle class and a modest foreign policy. The Republican Party needs to become libertarian on social issues and embrace TRUE fiscal conservatism. Most folks under 40 could care less about religious purity, gays ruining marriage and free trade. They want the comfortable life style enjoyed by their parents. They are distrustful of Wall Street and sick of the banksters.
Talk radio is rife with Rush Limbaugh(s) and the little worms who are aiming for his chair. To listen to these nuts who call themselves “conservatives” are a wedge who force moderately minded voters into the arms of the Democratic Party. “Family Values” as a political platform is dead, your tea parties are an embarasment. Hispanic folks are gaining citizenship and they should be embraced by the party; however, “Little Rush” rails against the appointment to the Supreme Court made by President Obama.
I did not like one party rule under Bush and I don’t think it will serve us that well under President Obama.
Republicans you need to look inward. I would sure like to come home.
